Wood Borer
Common furniture beetle
Appearance
The common furniture beetle bores in wood as a larva. Adults measure 2.7–4.5 mm.
Life span
Adults do not feed; they reproduce. Eggs hatch after about three weeks into a 1 mm creamy white, C-shaped larva. For three to four years the larvae eat the starchy part of the grain and grow to about 7 mm, then pupate just under the surface for up to eight weeks. Adults exit through a 1–1.5 mm hole and spill dust, often the first visible sign.
